Vietnam beaches bound to attract Russian travelers |
An emerging trend as evidenced by figures from the southern Ho Chi Minh City tourism department, showed a 60 percent growth rate in Russian travel groups in the first six months of 2006.
HCMC-based SaigonTourist travel company received 450 travelers from Russia in three groups in the first half of this year and the Ben Thanh Tourism Company also greeted 800 Russians.

However, after a natural disasters and bombings at these sites, many Russian have turned to visit Vietnam for economical tropical travel instead, he added.
Additionally Russian holidaymakers flocked to central coastal Vietnam, home to resorts, appealing scenery, and high quality service.
Vietnamese travel companies were projecting 2006 to be an even better year for tourism numbers from Russia. Saigontourist and Ben Thanh Tourist Company expected to pick up 3,000 and 2,000 Russian tourists respectively in the remainder of the year.
More than 23,000 Russians traveled to Vietnam last year, an increase of 94 percent, according to the Vietnam National Administration for Tourism. Most of Russians select tours to Nha Trang, Phan Thiet and Phu Quoc Island.
Top Tour was releasing a magazine with circulation of 20,000 copies to introduce Vietnam’s tourism, Matveev said, adding that the magazine would focus on promoting Vietnam’s tourism.
Familiarization trip
As many as 15 Russian tourism agencies accompanied by Russian media took a familiarization trip recently to central coastal region to learn more about tourism potentials in Vietnam.
The agencies and representatives of local resorts sat together to discuss how to bring more Russians to the Vietnamese seaside.
Russian tourism organizers attached great importance to tourism promotion programs and tourism professional skills among the local sector.
Mui Ne and Phan Thiet beach resorts in the Binh Thuan Province have proved an ultimate destination for Russian tourists with their numbers there constantly on the rise, said head of the delegation Z.Vitaliy, who is head of Foreign Affairs Committee of Russian Far East region's Vladivostock City.
The Russian travel media praised Binh Thuan for a wide range of resorts set among blue seas, gentle waves, white sand beaches, dunes and cocoa forests.
