Cham Towers of Po Nagar
Known locally as Thap Ba, located on a hill just 2 km north of Nha Trang. The partially well-preserved temple complex of Cham Ponagar is the most important historical attraction of Nha Trang. They were built at different times between the 7th and 12th centuries on a site that had been used for Hindu worship. Originally the complex consisted of eight towers, four of which remain. They were constructed in different styles.
The biggest and most splendid tower called Main tower (at 22.8 m high) was built in 817 in honour of Princess Po Nagar, also known as Lady Thien Y, who had taught weaving and new agricultural technologies to the people of the region. Her 2.6m sandstone statue has ten hands, each holding a specific object illustrating the intellect and power of Buddha.
The other towers are dedicated to gods: The central tower to Cri Cambhu (which has become a fertility temple for childless couples).
The north-west tower to Sandhaka (wood cutter and foster father to Lady Thien Y-ana) The South Tower to the god of mercy Ganesha (Lady Thien Y-ana’s daughter) with human- bodied and elephant- headed.
Long Son Pagoda
Was built in 1963, formerly the Branch of the Buddhist Institute of Central Vietnam. Perched on a hilltop is a 9m high white Buddha. The pagoda commemorates those monks and nuns who burned themselves in protest against the policies of the Diem government.
Pasteur Institute
Was founded by the great microbiologist Dr Alexandre Yersin who once worked under Louis Pasteur in Paris. Yersin first arrived in Vietnam in 1891 and recommended that Dalat be developed as a fill resort. He discovered the cure for bubonic plague and introduced rubber and quinine producing tree. Pasteur Institute now contains research laboratories to discover new vaccines.
Hong Chong
Is a small crescent-shaped bay. It mainly consists of massive rocks lying on top of one another. Hon Chong is divided into two parts. The first part is situated offshore and the other is in the sand dunes at the Cu Lao fishing hamlet. The offshore cluster includes layer after layer of massive rock emerging from the sea. These layers of rocks act as natural wave breakers.
The second part, Hon Chong Promontory, located in the sand dunes, looks like the work of a giant, who carelessly put several massive rocks together. On one side of the rock, facing the sea, there is a deep handprint with the five fingers close together.
Ba Ho Spring
Is 25 km far from Nha Trang. The spring has its source on the peak of the Hon Son mountain, at an altitude of 660m . The spring flows from the mountain to the sea, three times broadening its bed creating three lakes. The natural landscape is of utmost interest, and it is a very attractive sight for tourism.
Cam Ranh Bay
Is one of the largest natural harbours of the world. During the Vietnam War, Cam Ranh Bay had been one of the most important Southeast Asian harbours for the American forces.
